Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel, typically near where the plantar fascia (a thick band of tissue) attaches to the heel bone. The plantar fascia runs across the bottom of your foot, from the heel to the toes, and supports the arch of the foot. When the plantar fascia becomes inflamed, it can lead to sharp pain, especially when you take your first steps in the morning or after long periods of sitting or standing. The pain often decreases as you move around but can return after long periods of standing or walking.

The condition is usually caused by repetitive stress or strain on the plantar fascia, which can result from things like: Overuse (excessive walking, running, or standing), poor foot mechanics (flat feet or high arches), obesity, wearing shoes with inadequate support or cushioning, tight calf muscles or Achilles tendons. Treatment often includes rest, stretching exercises, wearing supportive shoes, and using orthotics or heel pads. This is all helped by therapy to loosen the soft tissues and joints in the foot and ankle. Healing is also assisted by developing a self help program. Sometimes medication or even surgery is needed for the more severe cases but the general rule is …get it looked at early and the recovery is far quicker!
