James graduated from Loughborough University in 2011 with a degree in Sport Science with Management. After a successful business career in sales and recruitment, James decided to combine his people skills with his passion for athletics by becoming a Sports Massage Therapist.
It was during his time studying towards a Masters degree in Sports Therapy at the University of Gloucestershire that James was able to develop his interest in Massage Therapy as a treatment for running related injuries and also other common non –sport related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. During his studies he completed a wide range of clinical placements including private physiotherapy clinics, Birmingham City Football club and within the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department of car manufacturer, Honda.
As a competitive athlete, James fully understands the frustrations of being injured, and is committed to helping people with sporting and non-sporting injuries back to full fitness. Injuries that he has suffered with himself, and that he has a particular interest in, include patellar tendinopathy, patellar femoral pain, pes anserine tendinopathy, medial tibial stress syndrome (aka shin splints), ITB syndrome, & plantar fasciitis. In April 2018, James volunteered for Cancer Research as a Massage Therapist, providing post event Sports Massage at the London Marathon.
Outside of clinic, James was a national standard middle distance athlete as a junior, competing for his county at the English Schools Track and Field Championships. He also represented Loughborough University at the British Universities Cross Country Championships. Currently he is a key member and team manager of Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club competing in a variety of events and recently set a club record in the Welsh Castles Road relay.
In addition to all of that, James is a talented guitarist and songwriter! He has performed live gigs at venues around Birmingham with his indie rock band. Ask him about this when you book in!
